On 24
June,Christie's South Kensington will hold its first sale devoted
entirely to Modern and Contemporary Prints. Works by the greatest
artist of the 20th Century such as
Picasso,Chagall,Miro,Hockney,Warhol and others, will be on offer
with estimates ranging from
£500
to £3,500.The
sale will take place in conjuction with the modern and contemporary
Picture sales and also with the sale of Important Old Master,Modern
and Contemporary prints at King Street on 26 and 27 June.Many of
these artists saw print-making as one of their most important means
of expression.Andy Warhol for example, is best known for his
screenprints of Marilyn Monroe as well as other famous faces, and
Picasso the greatest etcher of the past hundred years,executed his
most significant subjects in the print media.Chagall,one of the most
prolific artists of recent times, chose lithography as his preferred
medium. Trapeze Artist with Bird is one of several examples
of his works included in the sale, displaying a freshness of colour
and spontaneity of technique, so characteristic of the great
master.The sale at South Kensington will be a unique opportunity to
discover the highly sensitive etched line of a Picasso print, the
boldess of a Miro lithograph and the vibrant colours of a David
Hockney, available for as little as a few hundred pounds. |
